Limbal Relaxing Incisions for Astigmatism
Limbal Relaxing Incisions for Astigmatism Correction
Astigmatism is when the cornea (front clear layer of the eye) is shaped more like a football than a sphere. This creates two separate focal areas for the light entering the eye, and causes distorted vision and image ghosting. For small amounts of astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange, Dr. Cottle can create “relaxing incisions” in the peripheral part of the cornea, which relaxes the cornea into a more spherical shape assisting in astigmatism correction.
